4th Grade Mandalas

The fourth grade students are creating mandalas in class. We recently watched a few videos of Buddhist monks creating mandalas out of sand. We all were very impressed by the amount of work it takes to create these sand mandalas and the significance behind destroying them once they are completed.

Learning About Radial Symmetry with Sixth Grade!

We began this lesson by doing a pencil drawing of radial symmetry by tracing a circle and dividing it into sections. Students then had to repeat their design in each section of their circle and create a symmetrical design, which took lots of patience and hard work. They made beautiful creations that were on display at the Art Show!

As a reward for their hard work, we explored the iPad app 'Amaziograph' and the website 'Weavesilk' to create digital works. Here are some of our digital examples!

Group Projects at GMS

Two years ago, a group of students and I created a mural using the word 'perseverance' and translating it into all of the languages that are spoken in our community. It was an amazing experience, and we were able to get information from students, parents, and even grandparents, making sure that our translations were correct!''

This year I will be beginning Art Club, and one of our goals will be to create more artwork that can be permanently displayed in our school. Until then, here are some pictures from our 'Perseverance' mural! It is hanging in the gym at GMS where all students can enjoy it!
